Pre-engineered Waste Heat Boiler and Energy Production Module

Posted on June 30, 2019February 4, 2021

Imagine you operated a high temperature process that produced a significant amount of hot exhaust gases, say , an incinerator or a number of stationary diesel generators. Diesel engines typically convert no more than 33% of the energy contained in their fuel into mechanical energy and about 25% of the energy input ends up in the cooling circuit and 33% in the exhaust gases. There is a huge opportunity to recover waste heat!

A waste heat boiler module could be installed before your current exhaust gas handling system to capture the waste heat in a water heating circuit, that is connected to the power generation module, as shown in this short video at an anaerobic digestion facility.

We have selected the K-1000MK waste heat boiler, part of the MK series boilers, to provide hot water for the ZE-40-ULH Energy Production Module, which is connected to a Customised Cooler System.

A volumetric flowrate of around 3100 m3 per hour of hot exhaust gas would produce nearly 40 kWe each hour, or 350,000 kWh for the whole year.

These figures are currently under review and further information is expected any day soon.

Many land-fill sites operate methane flares rather than burning the gas is stationary engines to generate electricity. In this case the hot gases from the burner can ducted into a waste heat boiler for energy recovery, rather than discharging directly to the environment.
