As an older, experienced research engineer I feel that I understand the technical aspects of some climate crisis issues reasonably well. For one reason or another, this crisis developed on my watch . Of course no single person is directly responsible for our current predicament, but I have spent much of my working life suggesting technological solutions to problems and being frustrated that short term profits always seem to outweigh sustainability.
I have setup a website in an attempt to help people who are also concerned about the climate crisis but need some technical support. It seems exactly the right time to focus on implementing bioenergy and waste to energy technologies, areas where my experience is applicable.
“The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change.”
Greta Thunberg, teenage Swedish environmental activist.
I agree with Greta – the technology we need is available. All you need to do is want to change. If someone wakes up and wants to change, just contact us if you need some help. On the website, I have pre-engineered a couple of systems to generate electricity, one from waste heat and one from biomass, and put them in the project category of the blog posts. The commercially available technology is shown in the listing of equipment suppliers.
All too frequently businesses request technological proposals then just do not implement them, even though the technology is well understood, the pay back period is acceptable and it aligns with business plans. I also can’t understand the current political situation in Australia either – I think we need long term planning to create interesting jobs because our local manufacturing industry keeps shrinking.
So the website is called crossroadGREEN.com. It is primarily a blog with a few categories: one discussing realistic engineering projects in the Australian context, a compilation of clippings from various sources that I have found interesting, and a market place for biomass to put the producers directly in contact with the consumers. (This is only an idea that needs input from other people – basically you.) It also has a growing directory list of world-leading equipment suppliers, examples of interesting facilities from around the world and a reference section that contains important background information.
I can see that our house is well and truly on fire and something needs to be done. Urgently. So please help us make this on-line resource grow – contact us and get involved!
